eligibility2Eligibility for affordable housing is based on annual gross income and family size and is limited to U.S. Citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, the Hazleton Housing Authority will check references and criminal background on all applicants 18 and older.

Hazleton Housing Authority will deny admission to those whose habits and practices may have a detrimental effect on other tenants or on project environment.

Public Housing was established to provide safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

Public Housing comes in all sizes and types, from family houses to high-rise apartments for the elderly and disabled. Residents are permitted to have pets according to certain guidelines. Section 8 is a voucher program to assist low-income families and elderly and disabled residents to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Individuals are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, half-double homes and apartments.

The participants are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program. Rental units must meet standards of health and safety as determined by the Public Housing Authority.
